Perito Moreno Glacier

Another day in Patagonia... another fantastic glacier...

This one is called Perito Moreno Glacier (near El Calafate) - one of the only ones in the world that is "stable" - i.e. not receding due to global warming. Apparently it moves forward approximately 2 metres a day, but is constantly replenished by snowfall several kilometres behind, in the Andes, and several hundred metres higher in elevation.

Those 2 metres need to go somewhere, and they tend to fall off in small, medium or large sized chunks into the lake below!!! Sometimes the glacier is kind to the tourists and a big chunk falls off (is there a guy hidden behind using explosives to give us a show???) We were lucky enough to see a really big chunk fall into the water whilst we were on a boat quite nearby.... BOOM!!!!

So, that's it from Argentina. I am now in Chile for a few days, so hopefully I'll find wifi again soon...

Hi there!

Sometimes I wonder whether Stacy's friends read my blog more than my own friends do! hahaha

It's nice to know though that even random strangers enjoy reading about my adventures! Thanks for dropping by occasionally.
