Parag-why?

After Vegas, it was time for South America, specifically visiting some friends in Paraguay. Basically, the boyfriend of a friend (who I met through a better friend) is from Paraguay, and so they were there for the holidays, and I was invited along for New Years.

Anyhow, it was all quite pleasant... except I could barely understand their Spanish!!! What a difficult accent to understand!!! So I stuggled a bit to integrate into the crazy family conversations.

We also did some sightseeing. Well... Asuncion is a DANGEROUS place!!! You are not really supposed to wander around the centre of town, particularly on holidays and weekends, since there is a slum right nearby. But since we had a local as guide, we went anyhow. No photos, as I didn't even bother taking my camera (although maybe I'll get some from my friends later). And it turns out there is a heavy police presence (even though they say the muggers aren't particularly put off by the police either) Anyhow, I reckon there were 10-20 tourists, or locals out for a stroll. The number of policemen? 75? 100? I lost count... amazing... I figure they should have just provided an escort of 2 policemen for every tourist, but anyhow...

So, that's about all that was interesting about Paraguay. Not worth a special trip, but still interesting to add another country to my world tour.
