The first time I went to Croatia was in the summer of 2004, with Beth, my Spanish girlfriend at the time. Doesn't really seem like 4 years ago... But it was a great holiday - one of the best ever... We rented a car in Dubrovnik and intended to drive all the way up the coast, before taking a catamaran over to Venice to end the holiday. En route, the idea was to do some island hopping, as the islands in the Adriatic are lovely. However, what we didn't know is that, in the middle of August, it's pretty easy to get ONTO an island, but not so easy to get OFF an island. So after spending a nice day in Korcula, we decided to head back to the mainland and keep going north. Well I've seen queues for BC Ferries in Vancouver, going to Vancouver Island or Langdale (for my family's summer cottage), but I don't believe it's ever been necessary to park your car in the queue overnight, before trying to get on a ferry the next day. I perhaps exaggerate... but we made it to the back of a very long queue at 7am (behind a lot of people who must have parked their cars in the queue and returned to their hotel/apartment for the night) for a ferry that left every hour for a quick half hour trip across the channel. When did we make it to the mainland??? 3pm!!!! Lovely way to spend your holidays... needless to say that was the one and only island we visited during our two week holiday!
So, anyhow, I decided then and there that I needed to return to Croatia one day, but this time on a sailboat that would hop from island to island. After failing to convince friends to rent a sailboat with me, summer after summer, I'm finally just going to do it, as I've found yet another one of my tours that will organise it all for me, as well as provide the sailing buddies...

I'm really looking forward to this one... (actually I'm looking forward to most of my tours of course!!) But unlike some of the places I've dreamt of, but have never visited... since I've already been to Croatia I know it's going to be wonderful... particularly if the company is as pleasant as it was the last time I was there! ;-)

You know, I actually really wish that we could have done that family trip that August. I think we cancelled because of the baby, which never happened, but who knows why these things happen. I hope that you have a great time, and I will REALLY look forward to seeing those pictures!
Hey there... yeah, it would have been really nice to have everybody over to Europe for some sailing in a truly spectacular place...
But I'm probably just as jealous reading about your really happy life with my brother, and a healthy baby boy on the way. (who I will spoil and take to bars when he's old enough! ;-)
